Stephanie's Kitchen

Stephanie had bought a large apartment that needed renovating; she was lucky that her neighbours upstairs had already done their kitchen so she was able to see what any changes could look like.

She liked the layout of her neighbours' kitchen so decided to do something very similar. You can see from the Before pictures that it was a closed in space, with a 1980's kitchen, and certainly needed a revamp.

Stephanie decided on a high gloss white lacquer to all her doors and drawer fronts, and a light coloured Formica bench. The front edge roll on her bench has the squarer look to it which is very popular - not a harsh as the square edge, but not as old-fashioned as the big roll that was so popular in the late 80's/early 90s.

The overhead cupboards along the wall above the sink and the hob give her extra storage for items that are not needed every day - the height of these units was governed by the height of the rangehood - Stephanie decided on a powerpack style that is hidden inside the cupboard - giving the whole wall a very clean, flush look. We put halogen lights underneath the overhead cupboards to ensure a bright work bench area. Because we used a laminate bench top rather than a stone one, this kitchen looks expensive, but did not have the huge price tag.

Robyn's Kitchen

Robyn's kitchen was a lovely open area using an 'L' shape plus an island, giving her plenty of storage space. Sometimes 'island and back wall' style kitchens can be very limited in their tall storage so if you are able to extend around a corner this is a great use of space.

Robyn's kitchen is simply using two Melteca colours - the dark woodgrain is Melteca's Dark Oak, the lighter colour is Melteca's Mist. Her bench top is a light coloured granite. There is a bit of contrast in the crockery cupboard door with the sandblasted glass, which nicely breaks what could have been a big expanse of doors. Robyn's sink has a double bowl and no drainer - it has been undermount rebated in to the granite, allowing her to simply wipe water straight from the bench in to the sinks.

We put a small capping above Robyn's tall units - this a tidy way of finishing off taller units that don't reach the ceiling.

Yvonne's Kitchen

White has been very popular over the past couple of years and Yvonne decided on a white gloss finish to her kitchen also. Her bench top is beautiful rich granite with two undermount rebated separate sink bowls. Yvonne decided to inject some bold colour in to her glass splashback, and spent a bit of time finding a colour that she was happy with. Her overhead cupboards have aluminium framed doors with etchlite glass in them - a great way to break an expanse of cupboard doors without having to see inside the cupboard.

Yvonne's kitchen is another 'L' shape with island; her bench is running in to her pantry, and the island has a recessed area for two seats, ideal for casual dining. Her cabinets reach to the ceiling giving her extra storage space in what can be a wasted area otherwise.
